About Me

My photo
Daphne Vega
Los Angeles, Sunny Southern California, United States
When I was a kid I put things together. Stories, jokes, forts, jewelry, new school clothes out of my current school clothes, play-doh sculptures, drawings, and whatever else I could literally get my hands on. I admit this because I think it still describes what I do. Whether it is clay, metal, wood, paper, or fabric, I construct it from the bottom up, from the inside out; I build layers on top of layers. This is one of the things I love about working with clay. I love how endless the possibilities seem at the beginning of every new project. I love the surprising, unexpected, turns the work can take at every stage in the process from lump of clay to opening the finally cooled kiln. Each time I push the clay a little farther, whether I am getting sillier or more serious, thinking I am already on the edge of what I can get away with, and the clay shows me that once again I am only at the beginning, each time that happens its like being a kid again.
